The Mary Garden

The Mary Garden, nestled between the church and the day care, was created to celebrate the 175th Anniversary of Saint Mary of the Assumption Church.  Headed by coordinaters Ann Callow and Sis Kintz, along with their committee of Mike Wilder, Susan Downing and Bonnie Schultz, the garden was dedicated September of 2013.

The main feature of the garden is a one-of-a-kind sculpture of St. Mary of the Assumption ascending into heaven with three angels discreetly placed in the body of the sculpture.  The sculpture was created by local native and St. Joe graduate Greg Mendez and his partner Neil Wiffill.  A welcoming entrance to the garden was constructed out of limestone to match the buildings surrounding it.  A paver path leads up to the sculpture and out of the garden.

The many colorful flowers inside the garden are identified with their "common" name as well as their "Mary" name.  A bench is located inside the garden where one can sit down, relax, pray and meditate.
